Have you ever wondered what it would be like to teach English in another province? What are the similarities or differences between Ontario's English Curriculum to that of say, British Columbia's? Look no further, this week's topic is an indepth, cross-comparison (yet still breief) of ON & B.C. in terms of each province's treatment of high school English.
Here is a sneak peak at the report below:
This report aims to critically analyze and explore the comparisons between how the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia have managed important aspects of their respective English curriculums. The report will aim to highlight how each province responds to standards, testing, and organization of grade level expectations and skill sets students are expected to attain throughout their high school experience.

As I already commented privately, wow! What a thorough and well laid out report on B.C.'s implementation of English curriculum in comparison with Ontario's! Just as I found the fact that N.B. doesn't stream Grades 9 and 10, I find it equally interesting that B.C. doesn't seem have clear levels or streaming either. Ehrcke's remarks regarding successful academically inclined students tend to have greater support at home ring true across the country, and - to be honest - around the world. A support system in the classroom is important, but having one at home is even more important; this has become even more apparent in the midst of this pandemic academic school year. Again, there seem to similarities between B.C. and ON's English curriculum and performance standards, but perhaps ON's provides a little more with examples. I do like how B.C. breaks down assessment and evaluation though - there's something there Ontario could adapt into our own curriculum when the next revised addition is being looked at. It is interesting to note that there is "room for interpretation" in all three curriculum's - B.C.'s, ON's and N.B.'s - which is probably where the governments would argue we have freedom and thus need accountability. How sad is it though that the answer for this accountability is all the same even if the Grade differs. Seems that our country is stuck in a rut when it comes to testing; at least we're not alone in that department.
Thank you for all your hard work and diligence in sharing and comparing the two provinces!
