Brining it Closer to Home

After reading and examining our neighbour down south, let's now take a look at the Canadian Perspective when it comes to teachers and accountability. Below, are summaries of two perspectives and a comparison between Ravitch's "A Brief History of Testing & Accountabilty".

A very insightful look at the two articles and linking them back to accountability in the U.S. Clarisa! Earl's statement that governments and their policies are "blunt instruments" stood out to me as well where there are changes mandated of teachers in a rather harsh fashion. How sad is it that provincial governments across Canada cannot adopted a more Finnish approach to education cutting down on this distrust of teachers' abilities and focusing on the real priority: the student. I'm not sure if it brings me any comfort to know that as bad as teacher's and our education system is treated here in Ontario that other provinces like Alberta have faced the same type of scrutiny and public criticism thanks to the government. It's a wonder that our education systems as a whole for the country is ranked as high as it is internationally! Your last thoughts in regards to "two-way shared accountability" are really thought provoking and provide a lot to think about; I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments, if only those in charge and more in the public shared or voiced these same ideas.
Thanks as always for sharing!
